2005 is a crucial year for international development. We have an opportunity to make a difference and really change things for the better. The nationwide Make Poverty History campaign has brought together a large number of charities and organisations such as Oxfam and Christian Aid to encourage people to act thjis crcial year.
In the South Lakes so far we have the following things planned:
A campaign based around Kendal to get as many people as possible to vote for Trade Justice by filling out one of our specially designed leaflets and posting them in one of our ballot boxes which will be appearing throughout the area in the spring. (We aim to distribute 16,000 + leaflets). Our campaign will include school assemblies, talks to local organisations, a mobile display and publicity stunts. If you want to get involved contact Peter Bryant on 01539 720255 or e mail him on

Coach trip to Edinburgh for the mass G8 rally on July 2nd 2005.
Why 2005?
The British Government is chairing two very important meetings of powerful governments, the G8 (in Scotland in July) and the EU, 2005 also sees the launch of the government’s Africa Commission findings and the 20th anniversary of Live Aid.
What can I do?
- Vote for Trade Justice by downloading our leaflet (coming here soon!) and either sending it to the Kendal address listed or to any of our ballot box locations.
- Encourage your friends / family / colleagues to do the same.
- If you are part of an organisation (for example a school or community group or business) invite one of us to come and make a presentation on Trade Justice and our campaign or pass a trade justice resolution).
- Come with us to Edinburgh on the G8 mass rally.
- Come to our meetings to learn more or suggest other ways you could get involved.
